Item Description
Moore Brothers has selected three wines from the Rhone, where viticulture was established as far back as 600 B.C., but their wines were unseen outside the region until the 14th century. Included are:
Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah - Domaine Georges Vernay 2005
Georges Vernay's unrelenting efforts in the northern Rhone appellation of Condrieu are legendary. Almost single-handedly, he resuscitated this ancient town, brought the world's attention to the local grape Viognier, and inspired winemakers around the world with his extraordinary vision. This varietal Syrah is carefully vinified in stainless-steel tanks and shows pristine, forward aromatics with silky, polished textures -- a happy partner to game birds and grilled steaks. The wine's combination of balance and finesse is the signature of Domaine Vernay.
Cotes-du-Rhone "Les Collines" Rouge - Domaine Jaume, 2004
A family-run winery since 1905, the Jaume estate has grown to 80 hectares of selected vineyard land in and around the hamlet of Vinsobres, in the southern Rhone Valley. The vineyards in the hills overlooking the original estate produce this cuvee of Syrah, and Grenache. Supple and rich, with notes of spice, cocoa and licorice, this is a splendid example of a superb vintage, delicious in its youth.
Cotes-du-Rhone-Villages "Khayyam" - Mas de Libian, 2005
This homage to Omar Khayyam comes from the biodynamic farming of winemaker Helene Thibon; on the label she says "If I drink some wine, it's to breathe in a moment outside myself." Khayyam comes from selected parcels of old Syrah vines. A pronounced spicy component and intense backbone make this a wonderful choice for grilled meat.
