Item Description
Editors: James D. Hoyer, MD, FCAP, and Steven H. Kroft, MD, FCAP
The most up-to-date and comprehensive publication on hemoglobinopathies available today, the Color Atlas of Hemoglobin Disorders draws its material from recent proficiency testing surveys conducted by the CAP Hematology and Clinical Microscopy Resource Committee. The cases are arranged in increasing order of complexity and represent a comprehensive array of hemoglobin disorders.
The 45 "wet" cases are presented as a series of learning exercises that include the case history and the alkaline and acid electrophoresis gels; identification of the case and survey participant performance; selected peripheral blood smears; and discussion of the case, complete with references. The 24 "dry lab" challenges--those cases in which a sufficient volume of blood could not be obtained or a specimen could not be obtained--consist of a series of diagrams that illustrate the electrophoretic findings of a case. The text also includes examples of various disorders as illustrated by high-performance liquid chromatography and isoelectric focusing.
Partial Contents: Methods Used in the Evaluation of Hemoglobinopathies; Case Studies; Dry Lab Challenges; A Closer Look at ... Alpha-Thalassemia, Beta-Thalassemia, and Hb E-Associated Disorders; General References; Listing of Cases Used in the CAP Hemoglobinopathy Survey by Year.
