Item Description
Bottle 1: Seghesio 2000 Zinfandel-Old Vine
Seghesio Family Vineyards, Healdsburg , CA
http://www.seghesio.com/index.shtml
Value: $45
A cooler growing season enveloped by heat spikes in early June and mid-September provided the fruit longer hang time. At harvest, higher acidities accompanied darkly hued fruit that possessed physiologically ripened flavors. Hand-harvested Sept 8-12, 2000. Barrel-aged 13 months in 64% French oak, 36% American oak; 40% new oak. Food Affinities: Beef tenderloin, pasta with red sauce, barbecue, spicy cuisine.
Bottle 2: Ferrari-Carano 2002 Reserve Chardonnay
http://www.ferrari-carano.com/
Value: $36
02 Reserve Chardonnay, 90% Napa, 10% Sonoma
This wine is well-balanced, not full of butter and oak like some Reserve Chardonnays. From our cool, windy vineyards in the Carneros region of Napa County come grapes with clean bright acidity and intense aroma. From Our Alexander Valley vineyards in Sonoma County come the rich, tropical notes of classic California Chardonnay. The two sources combine to yield a wine that is beautifully focused and balanced between fruit and oak, with elegance and finesse.
Bottle 3: Rochioli 2002 Estate Chardonnay
Value: $30
French Oak Barrel fermented. Only 2200 cases produced. Proper cellaring: 5 years. This wine is a blend of Richioli's Estate Chardonnay vineyards. Aromas of ripe apple, tropical fruit, vanilla and a touch of spice combine with rich apple flavors and crisp acidity. The blend consists of 30% River Block, 20% North Hill Vineyard, and 50% mid-40 vineyard and is a fine example of the unique characters from the Richioli property and the Russian River Valley. Currently, Tom Rochioli makes about 10,000 cases of estate wine per year.
