The Auction May Be Gone, But Our Mission Goes On!
Even though our auction has ended, our organization and our mission have not. We would greatly appreciate your continued support in terms of time, effort and funding, and will do our best to keep you up to date on future activities.
Our goal at the Athens Area Humane Society is to have a euthanasia rate of 0% for all healthy adoptable animals. For too long, animals in shelters have been forgotten. The current AAHS facility is itself a tiny and outdated place with a hard-to-find location on the edge of Athens. Our new Adoption Center will be in a convenient central location that makes all of our services easier to access and brings animals closer to new families they’re waiting to meet.
Right now, animals await adoption in loud and uncomfortable stainless steel cages. While we do our best to ensure their comfort in the current shelter, our new Adoption Center will change the way we house homeless pets. Designed to meet the physical and emotional needs of the animals (and visitors, too!), this bright, cheery atmosphere will be perfect for meeting a fur-ever friend. The new Adoption center will even have space for dog adoptions. Currently, the shelter cannot take in dogs due to lack of space.
With the high number of animals received at the AAHS, we are unable to find homes for them all. Of the animals euthanized, 6% are healthy and adoptable. We are committed to ending euthanasia of all adoptable pets, and increased adoptions can make the difference. Are you ready to help us make a difference?
