Item Description
Local supporter Kutztown University will provide a recepetion for you and five of your friends or family to meet with the Kutztown University President Dr. Javier Cevallos and his wife Josée Vachon, a professional French Canadian folk singer prior to attending the Hubbard Street Dance Company performance on Wednesday, October 17.
The recpetion will begin at 6:30, followed by the performance at 7:30. As a special treat, the dance company will be performing a special award that Kutztown University commissioned for the 20th anniversary of the Performing Artists Series.
Under the dynamic leadership of Artistic Director Jim Vincent, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is among the most original forces in contemporary dance. Critically acclaimed for its exuberant, athletic and innovative repertoire, HSDC’s dancers display unparalleled versatility and virtuosity in performances that inspire, challenge and engage audiences worldwide.

About the President:
Dr. Javier Cevallos was born in Cuenca, Ecuador, and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1976 at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. He moved to Illinois where he earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in 1978 and 1981, respectively, from the University of Illinois at Urbana.
He began his career in education in 1981 as an assistant professor of Spanish at the University of Maine at Orono, and four years later, moved to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was promoted to associate professor in 1988 and to full professor in 1992.
In 1994, he was asked to serve as faculty advisor to the provost. In 1996 he was selected as a Fellow by the American Council on Education (ACE). Cevallos spent his fellowship with Douglas Bennet, president of Wesleyan University, in Middletown, Connecticut.
Upon his return to UMass, Cevallos became chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Soon after, he was appointed Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, a position he held until he was appointed President of Kutztown University in 2002.
