Item Description

Floating the Middle Fork is the quintessential river trip.

From our launch point at Boundary Creek to the take out destination at Cache Bar, the Middle Fork of the Salmon plunges 2,800 feet in elevation with over 80 thrilling rapids in 100 miles. The whitewater rafting is good throughout the summer. June is the biggest whitewater of the season when the spring runoff fills the banks of the Middle Fork and creates large waves and challenging fun. During July and August the water warms up and the water levels drop, but the whitewater excitement remains with technical maneuvering through boulder gardens and breathtaking drops into clear pools. Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters uses self-bailing rafts and equipment designed specifically for the demands of whitewater rafting. Our guides are experienced professionals who are dedicated to assuring you a safe, comfortable and fun river trip.

There are several ways to enjoy your river rafting trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon. Our oar boats provide the opportunity to fish, take photographs or just relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery while your guide expertly maneuvers the raft down the river. Our paddleboats get you right into the action allowing you to paddle as a team down the rapids with the guide giving direction from the stern. And finally for the ultimate challenge we offer inflatable kayaks for those who want to paddle on their own.

We take 22 guests and 7 guides on each trip (fewer guests and more guides than most outfitters). You are free to choose your boat(s) every day and typically our guests take turns in each type of boat to fully experience the river-- kayak the morning, paddle the afternoon and fish from the oar boat the next day! Our team of guides will closely supervise all of these activities to ensure your safety at all times.

The Middle Fork of the Salmon is truly magic. It has all of the ingredients for an ideal rafting vacation: abundant wildlife, towering conifers, blue sky, natural hot springs, rugged canyons and beautiful campsites. Middle Fork Wilderness Outfitters takes great pride in offering a first class river expedition service to match this outstanding resource. Once in camp, we do all the chores allowing you the freedom to relax, sunbathe, fish, swim or hike.

Our dinner menu includes dishes such as grilled Salmon with Roasted Corn Salsa accompanied by scones dripping with home made honey butter, Herb Crust Dutch Oven Pizza, Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin, Shrimp Kebobs, and Marinated Flat Iron Steak. Lunches include delicious salads, sandwiches, fruits and home made cookies. Breakfast highlights gooey cinnamon rolls, Spinach Strata, Banana Pancakes, eggs and savory grilled meats. Of course, we serve appetizers and mouth-watering desserts nightly like Cinnamon Mud Pie, warm French Apple Pie, or Rootbeer Floats with Homemade Ice cream prepared on the river's edge. We serve juice, coffee, tea or hot chocolate for breakfast; juices, ice tea or water for lunch; and quality red and white wines for dinner. During happy hour we provide a limited supply of beer, sodas, vodka, gin, scotch, whiskey, club soda and tonic water as well as fresh limes and lemons. We understand that individuals and families may have special dietary needs and are happy to accommodate any special requests.
