Roots:
My family of four piled into a Ranger 26 and sailed to the Thousand Islands. Twice. Once when I was six, and then eight. They let me steer and it was amazing. A foreign country, a passport....
I attended Brown University and sailed for four years, while studying philosophy. One highlight of college was Sea Semester, on the Corwith Cramer, a steel-hulled schooner, or barkentine. From St. Thomas to Venezuela, to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Through the Straits of Yucatan, finishing in Miami...After graduating in 1993, the Olympics came to Savannah in '96. My college sailing coach asked me to coach him as he tried out for the Olympics in a Tornado and soon I was working with the Olympic multi-hull team.
