Item Description

This party has all you need for an excellent evening:  wine and friends.  Here we have a Burgundy Wine Tasting for 14 couples (or 28 people) in the private dining room of the  new Nectar Wine Lounge in Burlingame, on Wednesday, May 23, 2007.  Your evening begins at 6:00 pm with a half hour reception prior to the tasting while guests arrive, during which time Crémant, a Burgundian sparkling wine, as well as appetizers, will be served.  At 6:30 the comparative tasting begins of wine made by Maison Jadot and Maison Faiveley.  Nine red wines from two consecutive vintages of the Hospices de Beaune (3) and the Hospices de Nuits (6) will be featured. These are the two oldest charitable auctions in the world dating back to the 15th century in medieval Burgundy, France.  Their origins are similar: In each town charitably oriented winegrowers would tithe plots of vines to the local hospital with the intent that the wines produced would be sold and the resultant income used to benefit indigent patients.

The following spectacular wines are being donated by Terroir Wine Merchants (www.terroirwinemerchants.com):  Nuits St-Georges, Les Didiers, Cuvee Fagon, 1ER Cru, 2002 Nuits St-Georges, Les Didiers, Cuvee Jacques Duret, 1ER Cru, 2003 Nuits St-Georges, Les St Georges, Cuvee Les Sires De Vergy, 1ER Cru, 2002 and 2003 Nuits St-Georges, Les St Georges, Cuvee Georges Faiveley, 1ER Cru, 2002 and 2003 Corton, Cuvee Dr Peste, Grand Cru, 2002 and 2003 Mazis-Chambertin, Cuvee Madeleine Collignon, Grand Cru, 2003.

Your hosts will pour a 1.5 oz. glass of each wine per person.  Thirty minutes will be allowed for evaluation, ranking and voting for each wine followed by one-half hour of discussion led by a renowned Burgundy expert.
