Item Description

Enjoy an afternoon of paddling on the Kennebunk River with Susan Morris, marathon canoe racer and Seventh Grade math/Sixth grade science teacher. Students will take turns paddling the bow of a 30-pound carbon fiber racing canoe as it glides through the water, using a 10-ounce carbon fiber paddle. Students will learn river reading and racing skills, which will be helpful when paddling any canoe. Limit five people.

Trip will need to be taken at high tide and during warm weather. Both parties must agree on time, meeting at the Kennebunkport Marina. All students will rotate as Mrs. Morris' passenger.  A boxed lunch, provided by The Port Bakery, will be enjoyed at Picnic Rock. Life jackets must be worn.

About Susan: I have been involved in marathon flatwater canoe racing since 1986. I have raced all three of the Triple Crown Marathon Races, two in the US and one in Canada. Raced the prestigious AuSable River Marathon (120 miles) mixed class which starts at 9PM at night, paddling all night and until 2-3 PM the next day. Raced the General Clinton 70 mile canoe race 7 times with a first place in the women's class. 4th last year in the mixed. Two best Nationals Second USCA Nationals in 1997 in the mixed class in Niles, Michigan Fourth USCA Nationals in 1996 in mixed class, Syracuse, NY. New England Championships-first 4 times, twice in mixed and twice in women's. La Classique de Canot- three day stage race in Canada-6th mixed.
