Item Description

Buddha said, “A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.

As caring parents, it is important to teach our children about the concepts of philanthropy, service, compassion, and the positive impact their actions and support can have on society. We present to you a unique opportunity for your children to learn first-hand about giving back to those less fortunate.

Second Harvest Food bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties -- One of the Nation's largest Food Banks, works to end local hunger by partnering with more than 300 non-profit  agencies in both counties.

America’s Second Harvest of San Mateo will open its distribution center for 15-20 children (2nd grade and up) to tour the warehouse facility where food is collected, sorted and distributed to a network of nonprofit agencies such as pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and senior programs.  The children will discuss with administrators the issues of hunger, how individuals and corporations can help Second Harvest, and how the community can help.   They will also meet with a nutritionist who will talk about healthy eating and how Second Harvest seeks to promote and achieve food balance in it’s food distribution processes.

Whether or not this is the first time your child is being introduced to the concepts of compassion and charity, this rare opportunity will teach them about issues in their own community and their ability to help in a very tangible and meaningful way.  The proceeds from this live auction lot will be matched by a generous donor (up to $5,000).  These matching funds will go directly to America’s Second Harvest of San Mateo.
