Item Description
1999 Merlot
Sonoma County (3L)
82% Merlot
10% Cabernet Sauvignon
6% Cabernet Franc
2% Malbec
Lambert Bridge's flagship varietal, Merlot, accounts for nearly half of the winery's production. Winemaker Julia Iantosca's goal for this wine is to use the varietal character of the Merlot to create an integrated and complex blend, typical of Bordeaux style wines. That's why Julia uses four different varietals with the Merlot as the foundation: Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, Cabernet Franc and Malbec impart subtle aromatic and flavorful nuances to the blend.
The 1999 Sonoma County Merlot opens with aromas of sweet plums and cassis followed by subtle hints of toasty oak and warm brown spice. Flavors of dark stone fruit and sweet tobacco greet the palate and mix with hints of vanilla in the mouth. A long, lingering finish completes the picture. Wonderful with a variety of foods this stunning Merlot will continue to improve with age for enjoyment now or in the future.
