Item Description

This is a lithograph after a drawing by Pablo Picasso created in 1952. It is from a "Verve" collection; a prestigious French Art Review which published and celebrated the most avant-garde artists of the day. Miro, Matisse, Chagall, Leger, and Braque were all other "Verve" contemporaries. This lithograph is one of twelve in the portfolio, each depicting a figures playing roles as if in a in a theatrical scene. Many figures, as in this lithograph, wear masks and costumes making the viewer wonder what identity they hide and what story, if any, is being told. Picasso leaves the interpretation to one self, as abstract art is made to raises as many questions as it answers. This example is not only enigmatic and elegant in its composition, but also particularly colorful and ornate with pattern. Of the many styles Picasso is well known for, this lithograph is a beautiful example of his use of color. This work of art is custom framed in a classic carved gold and black molding with a linen mat, matching gold fillet, and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the Andrew Weiss Gallery, Beverly Hills, CA.
