Full title: Bob Marshall in the Adirondacks: Writings of a Pioneering Peak-Bagger, Pond-Hopper and Wilderness Preservationist. Bob Marshall embodied the wilderness spirit. He founded the Wilderness Society, explored the Alaskan frontier and fought for the preservation of millions of acres throughout the United States. He fell in love with the outdoors while exploring the forests and High Peaks of the Adirondacks. This anthology includes, among other articles, numerous accounts of his hikes, spirited defenses of New York state's forever-wild Forest Preserve, and a charming portrait of his guide, Herb Clark. It also contains excerpts of an unpublished novel set partly in the Adirondacks. The book contains more than 60 historical photos, many taken by Marshall himself, and a dozen maps. Phil Brown, who collected and annotated the articles, is the editor of the Adirondack Explorer, a regional newsmagazine focusing on outdoor recreation and environmental issues. Edited by Phil Brown.
