Item Description
This is a woodcut relief print. The term relief refers to any printmaking process in which only the raised areas of the block are printed. Woodcuts fall into this category. This print is created from three different wood blocks. The first stage used an uncut block of wood inked in green. The wood was wired brushed to bring out the wood grain more fully. Next the "key block" (main image) was printed in black over the green wood grain. The third and last stage was printed in red. Oil base ink was used on acid-free rice paper. Lydia Lehr is a full-time faculty member at Atlantic Cape Community College. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a MFA in Sculpture. She maintains a studio in Mullica Township and is currently working on a series of relief prints.
