Item Description
David Humphrey was born in Augsburg, Germany in 1955, but moved with his family to Pittsburgh when he was just a year old. He holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and an MFA from New York University. Throughout his career, Humphrey has been awarded several fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, along with several national prizes. He has been featured in solo-shows in major galleries, such as Brent Sikkema in New York, Solomon Projects in Atlanta, Frederic Snitzer Gallery in Miami, the University of Santa Barbara, and the Rena Bransten Gallery in San Francisco. In 1995, the Contemporary Arts Center held a major mid-career retrospective of his paintings and drawings, for which the center published a catalogue. Humphrey lives and works in New York City.
