Item Description
"Objectivity is when the head is cocked because the conditions of the issue's possibility are already identical with its reality"
"Subjectivity is when the conditions of the thing's possibilty are not yet identical with their reality"
Husband and wife photographers Anna and Bernhard Blume have been creating collaborative artwork since the 1970s. Often using themselves as subjects, the Blumes have produced many sets of staged photographs that create narratives, albeit elliptical ones. The Blumes have been inspired by German cultural stereotypes and clichés. Often marked by an ironic humor reminiscent of vaudeville, the Blumes work both questions and illuminates traditional gender roles and domesticity. Their approach consistently evokes the strangeness, rather than the normalcy, of seemingly everyday settings and objects. Their work is has been featured in major public exhibitions around the world, including in Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, the U.K., the Netherlands, Canada, and the U.S.
