Item Description
Bruce Nauman, born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1941, grew up studying mathematics. Since taking on the art world in the early 1970s, though, he has widely been held as one of the most innovative contemporary American artists. Nauman's work delves into the happenings of everyday life, of all things common. Nauman is a sculptor, a video and film artist, a printmaker, a performance artist, and an installation artist. He spends his time exploring the processes and meaning of art, rather than sticking to a certain genre. Nauman's work explores space, sound, ideologies, art, traditions and the general material of life. Most recently, he has had a solo show at the Tate Modern in London; his work can be seen in the American collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, Dia:Beacon, and the Corcoran Museum of Art. Internationally, Nauman's work has been purchased by prominent museums in Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the UK. Nauman lives in New Mexico.
