Item Description
Anthony Luensman is a multimedia artist whose most recent exhibitions, Ersilia, (2004, Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei), Tracings, (2003-4, Taipei Artist Village, Taiwan), Eolian (2003, Olin Art Gallery at Kenyon College, Gambier, OH), Irato (2002, Weston Art Gallery, Cincinnati, OH) and Zeloso (2003, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH), explore sound production through viewer interaction. In the spring of 2005, Luensman was an artist-in-residence in Sapporo, Japan where he experimented with new ideas and materials as means to creating artificial "landscapes." In 2004, he was an artist-in-residence at the Taipei Artist Village in Taiwan. In 2000, Luensman received his first Ohio Arts Council Fellowship, which subsequently led to a residency at Headlands Center for the Arts in California. Over the past several years, Luensman has been awarded grants from Summerfair, the Ohio Arts Council and the City of Cincinnati. As a co-founder of the experimental theater ensemble Saw Theater, Luensman collaborated on the creation of numerous original productions. Saw Theater's most recent performance, Account Me Puppet (1999-2001), received national acclaim and was performed at P.S. 122 in New York, the Detroit Institute of the Arts, and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. His work is currently included in Kaohsing International Container Arts Festival in Taiwan, and his solo show, Skirting the Line: Conceptual Drawing, opened in February at DePauw University. Luensman's contributions to Cincinnati's CAC include Paavo's Hands and Ringin' & Singin' Chandelier, two highlights of the UnMuseum.
