Item Description
Denise Burge was born in North Carolina, where she earned a MFA in fine art. She has been an associate professor of art at the University of Cincinnati since 1992. Burge has won awards from the Ohio Arts Council and Summerfair. In 2005, she was also awarded the national Joan Mitchell prize. She has completed 3-month residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts and at the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center. In 1999, Burge began quilt making, and continues to produce various textile works. She is collaborating with friends in a songwriting and animation project, which will be presented at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh and at the Riffe Gallery in Columbus, Ohio this summer. Her work is in several private collections nationwide.
