Item Description
Cal Kowal's photographs and self-published artist's books have been collected by the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester. His work was shown in two person exhibitions with Anita Douthat at the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Weston Art Gallery, Aronoff Center for the Arts. The exhibition Taken by Design organized at the Art Institute of Chicago also included his work. In 2004, his work was included in The Chicago School at the Cincinnati Art Museum and a major assemblage work was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. Last year his work was included in the exhibition Altered States at the Weston Art Gallery. Kowal received an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and an M.S. from the Institute of Design, Chicago. A recipient of two fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council, he taught at the Art Academy of Cincinnati from 1971 to 2002.
