Item Special Note
I am a 48 year old inmate artist in the Texas prison system. Prison itself is not an inspiration to me, nor does my motivation come from prison. One thing prison does is give me a lot of time and so with that time I find things to draw and paint. Growing up I was taught right and wrong, black and white. However, later in life I found out there were gray areas too and more times than now my actions fell into these areas where right and wrong didn't seem to matter. My painting is set in a very dark background, which I feel is prison. However, the roses seem to glow from source of light we can't see. This light could be God, but why is it pink? Because it's neither right nor wrong; we are God's work shining out of darkness.
