Item Special Note
The drawing depicts my personal version of Huitzilopochjli sitting on this throne attentively holding the severed head of a warrior who was ritually sacrificed in his honor as an offer of nourishment. According to Aztec mythology, this deity guided them to the promised land, Tenochtitlan (present day Mexico City.) Huitzilopochtli means "hummingbird-of-the-left." The significance of the left lies in the fact that the sun sets in the west and if one stood facing that sacred direction , the left hand points to the south, where the Aztec new homeland would presumably be found. Hence the name hummingbird of the south.
