Item Description

A Remembrance of Things Past. Going Out of Business depicts a once-thriving mill, architecturally lovely even in its ill-fated idleness. For Penelope Manzella, "Mills and other industrial buildings of the past occupy a haunting presence in today's landscape. For years I have followed roads leading to them, drawn there by the bold, elegant chimney stacks that punctuate the skyline." When I start to paint them, "I often place them in imaginary landscapes... I work to make the painting interesting -- to evoke an emotional response -- to stir a memory."

Going Out of Business is an oil on linen measuring 30"(h) x 32"(w) in a simple black wood frame.

Penelope Manzella is an award-winnng painter who is featured in many public and private collections and who has exhibited extensively in the Northeast. Penelope received her BFA from Columbia University School of Painting and Sculpture. She is associated with The Art League of Rhode Island and The Copley Society of Art in Boston as well as galleries in Newport, RI and Damariscotta, ME.
