Item Description

The classically famous Greek sculpture, Venus, is enshrined in Tuscan ruins in this fascinating mixed media collage by renowned artist Marilyn Pappas. With the transcendent female figure of Venus radiantly beautiful in contrast to the crumbling archeological artifacts and underpinnings, the piece celebrates the goddess and the feminine principle.

Collaged and painted with acrylics on a handmade paper relief, Venus in Tuscany, measures 25"(h) x 20"(w) in a plexiglass enclosure.

Marilyn Pappas is a Cambridge artist, working in fabric and mixed media collage. A Professor Emeritus from the Mass College of Art, she has received many awards and honors, including an Artist's Resource Trust Fund Grant, and fellowships from the New England Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work is in numerous public and private collections, including The Houston Museum of Fine Arts, The Museum of Arts and Design, NYC, and the Krannert Art Museum in Illinois. A solo exhibition of her work is scheduled for December 2005 at the Nancy Margolis Gallery in New York City.
