Item Description
From a series called Table Blessings, Tilly Strauss' collage reminds us that what we eat is political as well as personal. Using paper made from corporate packaging, the artist juxtaposes text from agriscience and the image of McDonald's fries against the dark backdrop of Van Gogh's Potato Eaters. "A vocal proponent of local organic foods", Strauss has, "nevertheless, been 'tempted' by commercial fast food."
Tempted is a sewn, painted collage on paper measuring 16"(h) x 13"(w) in a blonde wood frame under glass (image size: 9" x 5").
Tilly Strauss earned BFA degrees in both fine art and art history at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In addition to painting and exhibiting, Strauss is an art instructor, "inspiring kids to take up their creativity and run with it." She has exhibited throughout the East Coast and was awarded the Dutchess County Executive Arts Award in 2004. She has also been profiled in numerous magazines, journals and newspapers, including the New York Times.
