Item Description
Named for the state registration number given to this salty little work boat, RI234lJ, Bristol Skiff, was painted plein air and alla prima in Bristol, Rhode Island on a brisk and sunny spring morning. Artist Jonathan McPhillips chose to "zoom in on the bow" in order to emphasize "the abstract clutter inside the boat and the rhythmic reflections in the water." Dynamic brush strokes churn the water against the solid geometry of the skiff in this 14"(h) x 16"(h) oil on board in a gold wood frame.
Jonathan McPhillips holds a BFA from Connecticut College. An Artist Member and current Vice-President of the Art League of Rhode Island, Jonathan has displayed his work widely and garnered numerous awards. Jonathan is also a 2005 "Whale Trail" artist and his creation, sponsored by the Coast Guard Foundation, can be seen at City Pier in New London. His paintings are featured at Arnold Art, Randall Art and Wilson Scott Galleries.
