Item Description

Frances Sniffen's work reflects "life-forms" that evolve as she manipulates various materials to evoke "mystery and the spiritual senses of the mind and body." The artist notes that, "The biomorphic forms developed from a shape that suggested a living organism inherent with change and movement." This charcoal/ enamel on canvas measures 44"(w) x 40"(h) unframed.

This is a first-time donation from Washington D.C. based artist Frances Sniffen. She earned her BFA at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, with further studies at the University of Maryland and the Art Students League of New York. She is a jury-selected member of the National Association of Women Artists and an appointee to the Kennedy Çenter Women's Committee. Sniffen had a solo exhibition in Florence, Italy in 2003 and was awarded first place in sculpture for "Biomorph#5 " in a 2004 Global International Competition.
