Item Description
The yarns used to create this poncho are Mango Moon recycled silk and a variety of novelty yarns. Mango Moon supports the NGO Organization N-WEG, "Nepali Women Empowerment Group." N-WEG helps women who have been rescued from abusive situations. The women who come to the shelter are able to use their spinning and knitting skills to rebuild their lives, while continuing to care for their children. Proceeds provide safe shelter, health care, education, and the dignity of financial independence. The silk used to make the yarn is a combination of recycled saris and factory scraps. Colors run in sections from 1 to 12 inches and have no pattern to them. It is random, as the spinner reaches into a basket and pulls out a handful of silk as needed. Each skein is unique, but expect to find predominately jewel tones, with lots of red, purple and fuchsia undertones, as these are the most popular colors for saris in the region.
Item Special Note
The most satisfying feeling of working with this silk yarn is the intimate connection with the women of Nepal. Enjoy your wearable art!!
