Item Description
Enjoy a gourmet dinner for eight followed by an evening of discussing Thoreau's "Walking." Just a sampling of some of the dinner items includes: butter basted turkey, home-made cranberry sauce, sour cream potatoes, German sauerkraut, crusted sweet potatoes, southern stewed tomatoes, sausage stuffing, Maw Walker's famous green beans, fresh baked bread, squash au gratin, apple cake, and pumpkin pie topped with sweet cream. Note: alternative menu available upon request for vegetarians.
Item Special Note
After dinner, an informal "transcendental gathering" will ensue as Thoreau Society board member, Jennie Walker Wollenweber, shares with you her latest research on Thoreau's "Walking" manuscripts. Prior to the evening, attendees are asked to read "Walking," and participants will be sent a list of ideas and questions to consider concerning Thoreau's essay. Reading the essay and considering the information from the mailing will help to make our gathering as lively as the ones Thoreau attended in the Emerson home! Event date and time will be arranged when the bidder contacts donor: jwollen2@gwu.edu. Event available after March, 2005. Location of event: 3045 Elliott Street, Baltimore, Maryland. Canton home with view of the Harbor. Bidders are encouraged to contact other Thoreau Society members and bid as a group for this event. See the membership directory for contact information of other members. Minimum bid is set at $150.00.
