Item Description
"Luisa Miller" is one of several Verdi operas with a pivotal father-daughter theme. Giuseppe Verdi based his opera on Schillers great play "Intrigue and Love" and tells the story of a young woman's anguish when caught between love and circumstance. "Luisa Miller" is the fifteenth of Verdi's twenty-six operas. Both play and opera show the concerns that motivated the Romantic Movement in the eighteenth century: exaltation of common folk and the bourgeoisie, rather than aristocrats, and greater freedom for the individual and expression of feeling.
