Item Description
A fascinating read, this beautifully produced book explores the life and work of Calvert Vaux, the English-born architect who, together with then-unknown Frederick Law Olmsted, won the contest to design a new park in New York City. These two worked on the construction of Central Park for 20 years. Vaux also designed dozens of other parks, parkways and planned neighborhoods across the country. Vaux's design work and book, 'Villas and Cottages' helped establish standards for what was to become known as 'Victorian Gothic' architecture. Author William Alex, 1994, out of print, hardcover, new in sealed carton, 271 pp., 267 color and black & white plates and photographs.
