Item Description
“Kindness” Japanese Calligraphy by Rev. Kohtoku Hirao
This elegant calligraphy expresses the Japanese character for Kindness, created and donated by Rev. Kohtoku Hirao of the Waimea Shingon Mission. In a remarkable act of devotion, Rev. Hirao painted 500 versions of this character in pursuit of the one that truly embodies the heart, spirit, and soul of Kindness. The resulting piece radiates both serenity and vitality, inviting the viewer to reflect on the essence of kindness.
The calligraphy is beautifully framed in a 12" x 15" presentation by master woodworker Ray Nitta of Westside Woodsworks, Kekaha, whose handcrafted frame enhances the balance and grace of the work. The bold brushstrokes set against a striking red mat imbue the piece with energy and warmth, making it both a meditative focal point and a timeless work of art.
A profound fusion of spirituality, artistry, and craftsmanship, this unique work is more than a visual expression—it is a lived meditation on the universal gift of kindness.
