Item Description
Collage
14" x 11" x 1.5"
Beverly Silva is a mixed media artist with a primary focus on collage. This medium allows her to combine her commitment to recycling and her passion for making art. Her current series include abstract cityscapes and minimalist collages. She enjoys working with found and vintage materials. A member of the AAM, South County Art Association, and the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, she exhibits frequently in group and open juried shows.
"The Way" is part of a series of abstract minimalist collages made from old books scavenged from recycling centers and library book sales. Silva used portions of lettering found on dust jackets, combined with text from vintage book pages. The discolored pages and frayed dust jackets, sometimes barely hanging onto the book cover, show the history of use and the passage of time. Silva enjoys rescuing these vintage treasures from the recycling bin and giving them new life as contemporary art.
