Item Description
Behrens Family Winery is a tiny working family winery, making a diverse portfolio of unique red wines in tiny quantities (annually about 150 cases or less). The winemakers are Les Behrens and Lisa Drinkward.
You'll receive a private tasting experience for 4 people. The winery has no commercial public tasting room, so all visits are private and by appointment only, and consist of a 90-ish minute tasting of usually 5 of our wines along with the stories behind them and the art that adorns the bottles.
You'll also receive 3 wines:
2018 Cemetery Cabernet Sauvignon - 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Capella Vineyard in St. Helena, located adjacent to the St. Helena cemetery.
It received 95 points from reviewer Antonio Galloni - "The appropriately named 2018 Cemetery emerges from a site in central St. Helena next to the town cemetery. It is one of the most potent, structured Cabernets in the range. It is a bit less showy than many of the 2018s in this tasting, but it makes up for that with its drive and overall persistence. Dark-toned fruit, lavender, spice and gravel saturate the finish in this potent, brooding wine."
2017 Labor of Love - 63% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon. From the Pritchard Hill Vineyard in the southeastern part of the Napa Valley.
This wine also received 95 points from Antonio Galloni - "The 2017 Labor of Love is a Cabernet Franc-based wine from Martinez. All the pedigree and intensity of Pritchard Hill come through in this potent, deep and structured red. Inky and layered with striking aromatic intensity, Labor of Love is just stunning, and a rare 2017 with tons of precision and nuance."
2021 Where There's Smoke Grenache- 90% Grenache, 10% Syrah. We have loved Grenache for years and first made this wine in 2015 when we were were lucky to score some grapes grown by Sonoma's premiere grower. With aromas of dried rose petals and spice, and packed with red fruit and cedar notes, we proudly release the fifth bottling of this dangerously easy, approachable, and delicious Grenache. 94 points - "The 2021 Grenache is a dense and layered wine loaded with varietal character. Crushed flowers, spice, cedar and tobacco meld into a core of pliant red cherry/plum fruit. The 2021 is forward and juicy, both of which add to its overall immediacy. The inclusion of 10% Syrah adds richness to this fun, tasty Grenache from Les Behrens and Lisa Drinkward."
