Item Description
This is your opportunity to own a Jack Daniel's 1913 Ghent Belgium Gold Medal Tennessee Whiskey - Special Limited Edition. Alcohol 45% by volume (90 proof).
From the box label: "This special bottle is the third in a series of limited edition bottlings to commemortate the gold medals awarded to the Jack Daniel Distillery and its signature whiskey.
When Jack Daniel was laid to rest in 1911, some feared the distinctive character of his Tennessee sipping whiskey would pass into history with him. But they ddn't know Lem Motlow. Along with the distillery, Lem inherited his Uncle Jack's insistance on charcoal mellowing his whiskey drop by drop. It was a painstaking process, but both Lem and Jack believed it gave the spirit a smooth flavor all its own. Others agreed. A panel of international tasters in Ghent, Belgium awarded the whiskey its third (and Lem, his first) gold medal in 1913. It may have been the most signifcant honor given the distillery. For it signaled to the world that the old-time character of Jack Daniel's whiskey would remain unchanged from generation to generation".
Over the years, this dedication has earned Jack Daniel's a number of international gold medals for excellence: St. Louis World's Fair, 1904; Llego, Belgium, 1904; Chest, Belgium, 1913; anglo-American Exposition, London, 1914; Certificate of the Institute of Hygiene, London, 1914; State of Excellence, Brussels, 1954; and Amsterdam, Holland, 1981.
