Why This Photograph is Special:
Personal Connection: Betsy’s father worked in Oriente Province, Cuba, where her family lived in the 1950s. This photo was taken during Betsy’s first return to Cuba in 1994, when she attended a film festival with her sister, who was showcasing her films.
Rich Heritage: Betsy’s ties to Cuba run deep, with multiple visits to the small town where her family once lived. Her niece, Rachel Kushner, authored a novel about Americans in pre-Castro Cuba, closely resembling Betsy's own family story.
