Item Description

The winning bidder will receive a voucher for 2 tickets to any Lyric Stage Company of Boston mainstage production.

As Boston’s oldest professional theatre, the Lyric Stage has observed and been a part of a great many changes in the local theatrical scene.  The Lyric Stage was formed in 1974, and started performing in the Community Church on Boylston Street.   Focusing mainly on beloved classics – works by such playwrights O’Neill, Williams, Pinter, Shaw, and O’Casey – the Lyric Stage began its residency at 54 Charles Street in 1976.

In 1991, the Lyric Stage moved into its present intimate theatre at 140 Clarendon Street and the “modern era” of the Company began.   Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Spiro Veloudos since 1998, the Lyric Stage is leading the way in showcasing the work of the best Boston actors, designers, and directors.  Since Mr. Veloudos' appointment, the Lyric Stage has continued to support and nurture Boston-area theatre artists. The Lyric Stage continues its commitment to emerging and established Boston theatre artists by producing plays by the most talented playwrights, actors, directors, and designers that Boston has to offer. Over the past 41 years, the Lyric Stage has employed over 800 actors and 160 designers, highlighting the incredible depth of talent available in the Boston area.

The dedication to Mr. Veloudos' vision has paid off with a consistent rise in subscriptions, 25 Elliot Norton and 50 Independent Reviewers of New England Awards (IRNE) as of 2012, and a reputation as the place to see quality, contemporary live theatre in Boston. Mr. Veloudos plans for the Lyric Stage to be at “the forefront of opening doors to a more diverse artistic playing field.  We certainly hope that what happens on the stage of the Lyric will be as a mirror held up to the true nature of the Boston community, reflecting the diversity and multi-cultural aspects of our home city...all the while continuing to be theatre that entertains, challenges, and provokes.”
