The touch of a lifelong Zen practitioner resonates throughtout this simple, yet magnificent, piece. The presence of which transforms all to a space of no space, true emptiness of self, the grace and compassion within us all.
This large ceramic vase measures 11" x 8", has a stylized persimmon and black glaze, high-fired at Kaua'i Community College.
Daijo Kaneshiro is from Kalihi Valley on O'ahu. In 1993, he was introduced to Chozen-ji Rinzai Temple. He quickly deepened his practice and was ordained as a priest in the Chozen-ji lineage on October 7, 1995. Through his adult life he continued to undergo training in "Zen-Ken-Sho," or Zen, martial arts, and fine arts. Years of commited practice are imbued in his persona, his presence, and his artwork.
After his retirement in 2018, he lived at the temple and led the resident ceramics program. In 2020 he moved to Kaua'i to be with his partner Mary.
