Item Description
This item is a donated original woodblock print by noted Japanese artist Shiro Kasamatsu. The wonderful leek plants, topped with flowers, are finely rendered in a slightly darker shade of blue than the background. Meanwhile, a mysterious black neko (cat) peers at the viewer and dares you to disturb his wanderings. This would be a wonderful addition to anyone's collection of art.
Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991) was one of the foremost Japanese woodblock artists of the time and was trained in the Shin Hanga (New Print) and Sosaku Hanga (Creative Print) styles of woodblock printing.
This original limited edition woodblock print (189/200) measures 11 1/4" x 17" and, with paper matte, measures 13 1/8" x 19". It is printed on washi (traditional Japanese paper) and is signed, stamped, dated 1958 with the title, publisher's mark, and embossed mark in the lower right margin. The print was obtained from Watanabe's Woodblock Prints in Tokyo circa 1960's or 1970's.
