Item Description

This donated original woodblock print is by the noted Japanese artist Fumio Fujita (b.1933). He is one of Japan's most well known comtemporary sosaku hanga (creative prints) artists.

The image is rendered in muted colors, which when combined with the "dormant forest", gives the overall scene a wintery feel, except for the abstract "greenery" in the near ground. The linearity of the upper portion of the print contrasts strongly with the more flowing/swirling depiction of the foreground.

This limited edition woodblock print (53/100), measures 12 1/8" x 17 1/8" with the paper-matted size measuring 13" x 19". The work has been signed and dated 1968 in the lower right and the title can be seen in the margin. The image was printed on traditional washi (Japanese paper) and was obtained from Watanabe's Woodblock Prints in Tokyo circa 1960's or 1970's.
