George Liston graduated from Otterbein University in 1952 with a major in art and a minor in English. He also served in the Naval Air Reserve during the Korean War.
He went on to get his master’s degree in education from Miami University in 1958. He also attended the London Business School.
Liston was a dedicated educator for over 40 years with a commitment to his students and a passion for his community that is unmatched. He prioritized community outreach in his own classrooms.
Liston partnered with Save the Children Foundation and Kettering Hospital on class projects. Through these projects the students learned the importance of creative expression, giving back, and opening up to other life experiences.
He had an illustrious career which included President of Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, President of the Ohio Art Association and Chair of the Board of Directors for First Day Federal Credit Union.
He has won multiple awards including Ohio Art Education Association Art Educator of the Year, OAEA Distinguished Fellow, Ohio Senate Commendation Award as Chair, the Kentucky Colonel Award, Columbus College of Art and Design Honorary Art Educator Award and a life member of the Engineers Club Dayton.
He and his wife Jane were long-time supporters of the Otterbein Alumni Association, always looking for a way to give back.
