Tubac Heritage Walking Tour for up to 10 people
This is a private walking tour of Tubac. Tubac originally emerged as a village of the Sobaipuri and is the site of the oldest European settlement in what is now the state of Arizona, founded in 1752.
Divided into 4 themes, the itinerary includes a background & interpretation of Tubac’s:
A. Geography
(i.) Santa Cruz Valley and River
(ii.) Upper Sonoran Desert natural landscape overview
(iii.) Local mountain ranges identification
B. Native American and Spanish colonial history
(i.) Sobaipuri Rancheria of Tubac and the origin of the name
(ii.) Pima Rebellion & the Spanish royal presidio of San Ignacio de Tubac.
(iii.) Juan Bautista de Anza II and the expedition to California
(a.) Visit to shaded mesquite bosque and endangered
cottonwood-willow gallery forest along the Santa
Cruz River.
(iv.) The Apache presence in Santa Cruz Valley
C. Mexican and American Eras
(i.) Gadsden Purchase: U.S. Military and Abandonment
(ii.) Mining Activity and Charles Poston (Poston House)
