About the organization
Amigos de los Animales de Todos Santos (AATS) has been
working to improve the lives of our four-legged friends
in the Todos Santos area for nearly 27 years. In 2009,
we obtained our sanction from the Mexican
government as a non-profit organization. In
addition, we have 501(c)3 status in the US as
a charitable organization under The Refuge
Animal Sanctuary.
Historically, most of our effort has been
aimed at effective animal population control
through spay and neuter work. Being a rural
area in Baja California Sur, sterilization of pets
has not been common practice. Over the years,
we have been very successful in working with
local and foreign residents to change this mindset.
Since we started keeping statistics on our sterilization
clinics in 1997, we have spayed and neutered close to 4000
animals - and that is just at the clinics! Our year round efforts
that include reduced cost and free sterilizations have resulted in
an additional 3000 animals spayed or neutered, 7000 in total!!!
In addition to sterilization programs, we are very active in
animal rescue and sheltering. From kittens left on our
doorsteps and lost doggies to abused animals, we
continually strive to care for those in need of a
helping hand. In 2005, we opened Kitty Heaven
as one of the few feline only animal shelters
in the Baja where we can keep comfortable
around twenty five or so kitties while they
await adoption.
