Says Kateri, "The retaining wall in this photograph, so sharp against the background, is like our ego. We treat it as a solid object that must hold everything in - our hopes, fears, and sense of self. But through meditation and the practice of mindfulness, just as we may adjust the focal length on a camera, our self can be just as ethereal as the background itself."
Kateri Garcia is a photographer and painter currently living in Arlington, Virginia. She is a native New Mexican who has lived in a number of cities throughout North and South America. She loves to travel and draws inspiration from experiencing new places and meeting new people. She is also a practicing Buddhist who believes in mindfulness and living in the present. Kateri's artwork has been shown in exhibits at the Seaside Art Gallery as well as Del Ray Artisans.
