Item Description
Original oil on panel painting of a pig at a farm by local Cape Cod artist Jaime Elkins, signed on reverse, with mounting hardware attached.
Jaime's inspiration for this painting came from her visits to this pig at Miss Scarlett's Farm in Yarmouth, MA.
Size 30 inches high by 30 inches wide.
Jaime Elkins has been drawing and painting since early childhood.
She began working with oils in 1996, studying realism as well as skeletal and muscular anatomy at the School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
From 2003-2007 she studied under Jim Peters at the Provincetown Art Association in Provincetown MA.
She is presently living on Cape Cod and Shows at the Post Office Gallery in Truro and the Larkin Gallery in Provincetown Ma.
She is also member of the Provincetown Art Association, The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and the Cotuit Center for the Arts where she shows in open and members' juried shows.
Artist's statement:
Painting for me starts with wide strokes, whether the composition is planned or not.
I like to paint with a brush in my left hand and a palette knife in my right. This way I can detail with my left and carve edges and or glaze in color with my right.
It is a fluid process that sometimes works right away, and other times is sanded away then restarted.
Either way, paint is built up in layers and a sense of volume is created. The images tend to be dark and bold and sometimes satirical, reflecting the response I have toward the world as I see it.
