Item Description
Hand sewn cotton wall hanging. Dark green "Barmer applique" on unbleached cotton background. Approximately 35" x 55". Hand wash, cold, tumble dry low.
There must be a folk tale illustrated here! Four figures at the base of a gigantic tree of life, with white embroidery on the figures. The figures might be three people, one distinct from the other two, and perhaps a cow or water buffalo.
This piece was created by rural women artisans in Rajasthan, Northern India, in the distinctive style of the Barmer region. "The artisan enterprise, Hatheli Sansthan, has operated this online enterprise for the sale and marketing of the Tilonia® product line of handcrafted, artisan-produced home textiles. Nearly 600 artisans earn supplemental income through sewing, needlework, embroidery, tie-dying, block printing and weaving. Designs and production methods draw on Indian craft traditions that are centuries old – but create modern opportunities for these rural women and men."
