Lebanon Cedar sculpture of lovely maiden.
The pristine, rare wood was prized and exploited by the Phoenicians, Israelites, Egyptians, Persians, Romans, and the Turks for shipbuilding. Most of the ancient Cedar forests have been devastated by centuries of cutting. As a wood, It has a wonderful intoxicating sweet aroma and is very durable against insects and weather.
This wood sculpture no longer has an aroma, but the details are very finely carved. At the extremes--Height: 10.5 “. Width” 8”. Depth 3.5 “
Purchased 60 years ago in Israel.
