An oldie but a goodie.
Even though kids will often be used to looking up the meaning of words on computers, there's something about having an actual dictionary available. Some kids simply like looking through the words and illustrations. Another advantage of a book, as opposed to a computer, is that children will sometimes discover another interesting word while looking up a definition.
This hardbound dictionary has been lovingly used but still has lots of miles (words?) in it.
