Known as the Poet of Colors, Carrillo's work is a celebration of life that becomes a mystical connection between the earth and its ebb and flow of seasonal rhythms. His vision of objects, people and nature becomes a shared intimacy. In soft focus, subject matter is set against backgrounds that are spun of color. Faithful to the concepts of pictorial tradition, Carrillo is that rare exemplification of the individual who is foremost true to himself. Jean Cassou, Director of the National Modern Art Museum of Paris, wrote: Familiar things and simple objects proclaim their simplicity, the warm friendship in everyday encounters...and the art that expresses this truth is characterized by this simple unaffected frankness unmarred by any artificiality.
His work is part of the collections of the King of Spain, the Prince of Monaco, the Sony Corporation, the deRothchildt family and the former President of France.
Honors include the Gold Medal of Paris, the Senior Officer of the Hispano-Belgium Order and the Commander of the National Order of Arts.
