Item Description
Thoreau, Henry D. Cape Cod. Boston, Ticknor & Fields, 1865. BAL 20115. The Cape Cod first edition was 2,040 copies, printed December, 1864, and bound in green, purple, and brown cloth. This auction title is bound in purple cloth, and states, “Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1864, by TICKNOR AND FIELDS, in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court for the District of Massachusetts. UNIVERSITY PRESS: WELCH, BIGELOW, AND COMPANY, CAMBRIDGE”. The guilt cartouche refers to Thoreau as “Author of Walden and A Week on Concord River”. The wreath is stamped in the center of the two covers. Condition: fair. Cracked & faded binding. Poor shelf and edge wear. The pages are very good. There’s slight foxing on the pages, if any. There are a few pencil markings in the margins.
